A Game of War

by

James Oswald

The war has raged for centuries. There has never been a time when it was not so. But things are changing. Rumours are rife of a new weapon, one that could bring the whole fabric of society crashing down.

It's a funny old thing, conflict. Terrible things are done in the name of war: endless millions die in carnage; monsters rise up, the worst that society has to offer thriving in the harsh climate; goodness takes a back seat to self-serving ruthless evil. And yet out of war comes development; new technology to ease our lives; a sense of cameraderie, of belonging. All this and more. War is good. Death and pain and destruction are bad. What if we could have a war where nobody ever got hurt?
